The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the August 20 to August 27 call reports.

2:02pm 8/20/2024 Dumping E traverse Hwy.,  Someone dumped a large light blue kitchen garbage on side of road, they don’t feel comfortable going to check it out. 

9:57am 8/21/2024 Fire Smoke S West-Bay Shore Dr., Saw a large plume of smoke, was black originally and now is just normal smoke, rise above the trees directly east of caller. Not seeing any smoke.

11:52pm 8/21/2024 Suspicious Incident Suttons Bay Twp., Calling on behalf of friend. Female at this residence thinks someone may be breaking in. 45-27 advised, they are on the scene. 

8:19am 8/22/2024 Suspicious Incident Leelanau Cty., Boyfriend is stalking her.

10:20am 8/22/2024 Larceny Northport, Caller had items stolen from the farmers market last Friday.

2:18am 8/23/2024 Suspicious Vehicle Leelanau Cty., Vehicle sitting at this intersection with its lights on 15-20 minutes.

8:32am 8/23/2024 OWI Lake Leelanau, Northbound Chrysler took out a “Men Working” sign, crossing fog and center lines. Has the vehicle stopped. In custody for operating while intoxicated.

2:50pm 8/23/2024 Animal Control Lime Lake, Bullet wound on his cat. Animal is still alive and being examined by his daughter, a medical person. Caller is going to take the cat to a vet to determine what happened to it. Per Bay Area Pet Hospital, full x-ray and exam was done, determined not to be a gunshot wound, likely an animal attack.

6:14pm 8/23/2024 Trespassing Elmwood Twp., Caller advised that he had seen a male walking on his property per his trail cam. The caller has had tools stolen in the past and would like to know what steps he should take.

11:48pm 8/23/2024 Suspicious Incident Leelanau Cty., Caller was sitting in living room and heard a noise downstairs, she is all alone. In bedroom with door locked. Home is secure, will be clear no report.

5:18pm 8/24/2024 Animal Control S Elmwood Twp., Found chaos running around. Will return.

12:09pm 8/25/2024 Family Trouble Leelanau Cty., “Husband is being a jerk - nevermind, bye.” Will go to check with female half. 

4:59pm 8/25/2024 Citizen Assist Deyoung Natural Area, Scared there is a bear next to him in the bush. Hears growling. Was advised to stay on the phone while he walked back to his car and make a lot of noise doing it. Caller said nevermind, it was his cousin pranking him.

12:49am 8/26/2024 Suspicious Incident Empire Twp., Received 911 call report from this address and immediately heard an angry scream in the background, caller asked for address to confirm and female caller said, “We don’t need any help, they're just reacting to me now.” and hung up. 

10:50am 8/26/2024 Welfare Check Leelanau Cty., Brother called his mother, caller doesn’t know but would likely be drinking, possible violation of controlled substance act. Does not live here anymore, there are no children where he is and no kids. Family is trying to get a hold of him and will try calling where he supposedly works.
