The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the July 9 to July 14 call reports.

10:13am 7/9/2024 Citizen Assist N West-Bay Shore Dr., Staying at the lodge, red pickup, male in parking lot getting agitated.

11:51am 7/9/2024 Animal Control Cedar Lake, Injured or entangled loon near the middle of the lake. Looks like it may have something tangled in its legs.

5:44pm 7/9/2024 Welfare Check Maple City, Ongoing problem with subject not taking care of herself. Not sure what to do at this point. Will call the caller with options.

4:05pm 7/10/2024 MDOP Leelanau Cty., Subject was staying at caller’s house and caused damage, also used his ATV without permission and tore up the property.

9:22pm 7/10/2024 Suspicious Incident Maple Cty., Caller advised that the vrbo she had rented had someone inside when they got there. 

8:34am 7/11/2024 Civil E Traverse Hwy., Caller had paving work done by a company and then today got a message saying that it is a “gypsy” company and they don’t pull the proper permits and caller is wondering what he should do. 

5:26pm 7/11/2024 Larceny Leelanau Cty., Caller had her keys in a cooler in the parking lot and someone stole the cooler, last saw it about 45 minutes ago, silver volvo. Upon further check, the cooler was placed in the trunk and the keys were in the cup holder.

1:16am 7/12/2024 Domestic Suttons Bay, Three Tree vineyard. Caller’s wife is in the tasting room. Caller is advising that she is intoxicated and he does not know what to do with her at this point. In custody. 

2:56pm 7/12/2024 Info Leelanau Cty., Little girl said she is running away. Girl is reunited with her parents.

6:24am 7/13/2024 Animal Control Leland Twp., Caller is reporting a heavy set golden retriever walking northbound on Eagle Hwy. 

11:58am 7/13/2024 WC Disabled Leelanau Cty., Paddle boarder out and can’t get in, has PFD with him. Private boater went by, and he waved them off. Caller has binoculars on him now, he is kneeling and paddling. Has eyes on the subject. Trying to get a boat in the water but he doesn’t seem to be in distress, he is declining assistance, paddleboarding safely back on shore.

12:06am 7/14/2024 Suspicious Person Maple City., 911 hangup, on callback a male said that his girlfriend popped his tire on his truck but he didn’t want a response. Will be clear, nothing physical occurred, tire is flat but it doesn’t look like anything was malicious. 

8:00am 7/14/2024 Larceny Suttons Bay Twp., Plate stolen 2-3 weeks ago, just noticed yesterday. 

2:02pm 7/14/2024 Animal Control Leelanau Twp., Male dog arrived at their home earlier, well groomed, medium, long tan hair. Bringing it to the sheriff’s office.
