The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the February 25 to March 3 call reports.
4:05pm 2/25/2025 Animal Control Elmwood Twp., Neighbor’s dog on her property.
12:12pm 2/26/2025 Animal Control Maple City, Called out for a dog at large, person trying to catch it. Chocolate lab. Attempting to contact the owner now. Dog was returned to dog sitter.
5:13pm 2/26/2025 Traffic Violation E Traverse Hwy., Blue pickup. Appeared to be a very young boy driving, no one else in the vehicle.
12:34pm 2/27/2025 Obscenity Maple City, Disseminating inappropriate material.
3:57am 2/28/2025 Road Hazard Lake Leelanau, Passerby called in “a creek overflowing in the road”. 45-27 checked road and found significant snow melt spread across road, though no standing water for about 10-15 feet in both lanes. Road Commission notified to put some material down in case of freezing.
7:18pm 2/28/2025 Fire Wires Down E Cherry Bend Rd., Caller is reporting a tree and powerlines down across the road. Contact Cherryland Electric, we will be shutting down Cherry Bend Road. Contact Road Commission and see if they have barricades as the road will need to be shut down for extended period of time. Barricades are up. Asking if law enforcement can swing by periodically to make sure they are still in place.
11:07am 3/1/2025 Welfare Check Leelanau Twp., Husband walking two miles, drove to location, cell left in car. Reporter called back stating that her husband is okay and doesn't need any assistance.
8:47am 3/2/2025 Traffic Violation S West-Bay Shore Dr., Intox driver on pump 7, driver stumbling around and running into red Ford SUV. Got back in car and turned south.
5:57pm 3/2/2025 Citizen Assist Leelanau Twp., Cat is stuck in a tree. Cat has been rescued.
10:42pm 3/2/2025 Fire Gas Leak Suttons Bay Twp., Dog smells like oil or something, would like the fire department to come check it out. They do have natural gas, and cannot tell if the odor is coming from inside or out.
11:43am 3/3/2025 Citizen Assist E Cherry Bend Rd., Caller believes mom was neglected.
3:31pm 3/3/2025 Animal Control Maple City, Two white samoyeds missing since 8:30 this morning. Have shock collars but power to unit was compromised.
5:43pm 3/3/2025 Suspicious Person Empire Twp., Has a suspicious person on camera he believes to be stalking his cottage. Came up from beach– here for the last 15 minutes now. Also looking around neighbor’s property.
