Still-Anonymous Sugar Loaf Resort Owner Sets Demolition Activities For This Summer
June 15, 2021
The Sugar Loaf Resort property’s yet-unnamed owner announced in a press release that Taplin Enterprises, LLC — headquartered in Kalamazoo — has been awarded the contract for demolition of the hotel and other structures at the former ski resort in Cedar. Ross Satterwhite, the local representative assisting the owner in planning and coordination of activities on the property, indicates the work is scheduled to begin later this summer and conclude in the fall, and noted “Taplin has a long history and proven expertise in the environmental services and demolition industry throughout the Midwest.”
The firm also performed initial material cleanup work at the property earlier this year.
The environmental consulting firm Envirologic, based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, will oversee the work on behalf of the owner. Envirologic has over 30 years of experience managing projects of this type and has conducted extensive work at Sugar Loaf and for other projects in the area.
The all materials will be managed appropriately throughout the demolition process and will be recycled where possible.
The property — which remains privately held and is not open to the public in any manner — was purchased by its current owner in November of 2020.
Satterwhite stated last evening: “Taplin is a very experienced company that has the capabilities and team to execute the work effectively and in a manner that will be respectful and considerate of local residents. The owner is looking forward to the completion of the work and finally eliminating what sadly had become an unattractive nuisance and eyesore in the community. We are also very appreciative of the ongoing support received from the township, county officials and neighboring residents during this process.”
