Renovations On Leland Library To Start February 3
By Craig Manning | Jan. 15, 2025
The Leland Township Library has announced the start date for its ambitious renovation project. The construction, which is estimated to take 8-10 weeks, is slated to kick off on Monday, February 3. During the buildout, the library “will continue to provide essential services from its community meeting space, the Munnecke Room,” according to a press release sent to local media Tuesday.
Such essential services will include “limited materials for browsing and checkout,” as well as Michigan eLibrary (MeL) services, access to a pair of public computers, printing services, and fax and notary services. Other library offerings, including recurring programs like the library book club and the kids storytime hour, will be temporarily relocated to the Fellowship Hall at the Leland Community United Methodist Church.
The Leelanau Ticker reported on the planned renovation at the Leland Library back in July 31. Among other highlights, the project will expand the children’s room, add a new teen area, incorporate multiple new study rooms and meeting rooms, and enhance accessibility features throughout the building.
“This renovation represents our commitment to creating a more functional and updated space for our community,” said Library Director Mark Morton in the press release. “While we understand the temporary inconvenience, these improvements will significantly enhance the library experience for our patrons for years to come.”
