Property Watch: Own Happy Hour!
Aug. 7, 2023
For decades it was a Leelanau institution. Now Fischer's Happy Hour Tavern is ready for its next act.
Its location at 7100 N Manitou Trail, Northport ($1,500,000; MLS #1910337), roughly halfway between Leland and Northport on M-22, has meant a steady stream of traffic over the years. Many of those streaming by would stop in for its famed broasted chicken dinners or the equally renowned soups, served up since opening in 1971 under Stanley and Yvonne Fischer. Their granddaughter Kristi Fischer and her partner Brian Hafner closed up shop the beginning of this year, and now the space is available.
Not only is the facility ready to reclaim its status as a destination restaurant, it boasts a class C liquor license, plentiful outdoor seating, a 24-by-40-foot barn and a three-bedroom apartment, perfect for employee housing or owner living quarters (Kristi’s father and five siblings were brought up there). All on nearly three acres zoned commercial. No word on whether it will include recipes for the house dressing or the magical “secret sauce,” made originally for the tavern’s ham sandwich.
The property could also serve as a general store with commercial kitchen, a brewery, a farmers market, or event venue.
