Point Broadband To Connect First Leelanau Fiber Customer On Thursday
By Craig Manning | Aug. 24, 2023
Leelanau County’s new fiber network will officially have its first connected customer later today (Thursday).
Patricia Soutas-Little, who chairs the Leelanau Peninsula Economic Foundation – itself the parent organization of the Leelanau Internet Futures Team (LIFT) – confirmed to local media on Wednesday evening that Point Broadband’s first local fiber customer would officially go live pending an installation scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
The Leelanau Ticker reported last week that Point Broadband was nearing completion on certain parts of its network, and that customers in parts of of Elmwood and Solon townships would likely have the option to connect and activate as fiber customers by the end of August.
Now, the fiber rollout is officially underway in Leelanau County. On Thursday afternoon, Point Broadband is holding a “first customer event” to celebrate the inaugural connection to its new network. Leelanau officials are expected to be on hand at the event, as are members of the LIFT team, Point Broadband employees, and local media. The household in question is located at the southern tip of Lake Leelanau in Solon Township. The customer is expected to be fully connected and online by 3:30om.
