Leelanau Conservancy to host 'Fall for Leelanau'
Oct. 12, 2024
The Leelanau Conservancy invites the community to “Fall for Leelanau,” running from October 14th to 20th. This week-long celebration features guided hikes, scenic driving tours, and trail stewardship activities, all designed to connect people with the land while supporting vital conservation efforts. Key events include the Harvest Celebration and a Super Moon Paddle.
“The Harvest Celebration, hosted by the Conservancy’s next generation Council, the LC Collective, is a chance to gather as a community and recognize the vital role our farms play in preserving the character and beauty of Leelanau,” says Claire Wood, the Conservancy’s Communications Director, says in a statement. “It's an opportunity to celebrate local agriculture and connect with neighbors over food, music, and stories on one of the Conservancy’s ambassador lands-the historic farm at DeYoung Natural Area just outside of Traverse City.” Local food and drink, live music from Breathe Owl Breathe, and an expert panel about local food and farming are all slated for the event along with family friendly fall activities.
The Super Moon Paddle on October 17th offers another unique way to engage with nature, featuring a moonlit 4.5-mile paddle from Lake Leelanau into the mouth of the Cedar River and to the Cedar River Preserve. The paddle will be led by special guest Tera John, an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper and member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
Beyond enjoying these events, attendees are encouraged to consider supporting the Conservancy’s work. Membership helps sustain efforts to protect Leelanau’s landscapes, expand stewardship initiatives, and ensure the region’s natural beauty endures for generations.
