Leelanau Conservancy Hosts 10th Annual Earth Week
By Craig Manning | April 22, 2025
Today (Tuesday, April 22) is Earth Day, and the Leelanau Conservancy is celebrating with its 10th annual slate of Earth Week events.
Today, for Earth Day proper, the Leelanau Conservancy is hosting not one, but three different events. Those include:
1:30-2:30pm: HWA eDNA Forest Health Volunteer Training Clinic at Palmer Woods. Attendees will learn about the Conservancy’s newest forest health volunteer program, which is intended to monitor hemlock trees for signs of the invasive species hemlock wooly adelgid (HWA). The program will run from May to July this year, and volunteers will be assigned to specific areas of the forest for monitoring. This one-hour session will offer a primer for how to get involved.
3-5pm: Old Growth Forest Network Dedication and Staff Hike at Palmer Woods. Palmer Woods Forest Reserve is the first forest in Leelanau County to join the Old Growth Forest Network, a milestone that will be recognized with this afternoon with a dedication and a guided hike.
7pm: Pints North Trivia with IPR at Cherry Public House in Glen Arbor. The Leelanau Conservancy will end Earth Day by co-hosting Pints North Trivia at the Cherry Public House along with Interlochen Public Radio.
Leelanau Conservancy will continue the festivities throughout the week, including a tree planting and clean up session at the Chippewa Run Natural Area (Friday from 10am to noon), a Tandem Ciders Happy Hour (Friday from 3-5pm), a docent-guided hike at Houdek Dunes Natural Area (Saturday at 10am), and a Leelanau Conservancy Collective hike at DeYoung Natural Area (Sunday at 2pm).
