Free Junior Ranger Program Inspires A New Generation of Anglers
Aug. 15, 2022
Fishing for fun and knowledge? Why not? At Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the Junior Ranger Angler program teaches youths how and why to respect fish and fish habitats, protect nature, and act as role models for safe angling practices. The upcoming ranger-led Junior Angler programs will test participants’ knowledge of and explore local fish species, fishing practices, conservation, and more.
Attendees will engage in fun activities, complete a Junior Angler booklet, earn a Junior Angler badge and receive a free fishing pole (while they last). The first program will take place Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 4 to 5pm at the Platte River Campground Amphitheater. On Saturday, Aug. 27, there will be a special Twilight Talks edition of Junior Angler from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. simultaneously in both the D. H. Day and Platte River Campground Amphitheaters. The last one will take place Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 4 to 5pm at the D. H. Day Campground Amphitheater.
All programs are free with a valid park entrance pass. They may be purchased at the Phillip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire or at the park’s campground offices.
