First Look Inside New Glen Lake Community Library
By Emily Tyra | Aug. 6, 2020
The good word from downtown Empire: library director David Diller says that the new Glen Lake Community Library will officially open September 8.
The long-anticipated $1.8 million renovation and expansion — funded entirely by grants, library reserve funds, and donations from the Friends of the Library, local individuals, businesses, and organizations — is in its final stages. The interior finish work is complete, the internet connected and now just the final exterior work/landscaping is in progress.
Diller, who has been library director since 1997, expects the library to be closed for three weeks beginning Sunday, August 16, for the move and installation.
The library hired a professional company to move 30,000 media items, 2/3 of which have been in storage for over a year. “We’re all looking forward to reuniting with our full collection. It’s been a long, long time coming,” says Diller.
