Bay Theatre Announces Fall Entertainment Series
By Craig Manning | Sept. 2, 2024
Inspired by “a phenomenally positive response to the live events of late,” the Bay Theatre in Suttons Bay is launching a brand-new live entertainment series this fall. The series, which the Bay announced via press release on Friday, will feature four different shows, including an a cappella vocal group, a standup comedian, a band that will play live music accompaniment for a film screening, and a jazz/blues ensemble. The first show is scheduled for mid-September, while the last will take place on November 16.
Below is a brief rundown of the fall 2024 series, which is called “Live at the Bay.”
Saturday, September 14, 7pm: TBD a cappella
Described as “a popular men’s group from Detroit who use only their voices and a beat-box to recreate well-known pop hits and funny original songs,” TBD a cappella will perform a “family-friendly and interactive show” for Bay Theatre audiences. The group’s repertoire runs the range from classic artists like James Taylor and The Eagles to modern staples from the likes of Sara Bareilles and Jason Mraz.
Saturday, October 5, 7pm: John Heffron
A standup comedian with Michigan roots – he started performing comedy during his time as a student at Eastern Michigan University – Heffron is best known as the season 2 winner of the NBC show Last Comic Standing. He’s since appeared on The Tonight Show, The Late Late Show, and more. A press release from the Bay describes Heffron’s comedy as family-friendly and resonant for audiences of all ages, noting that he “shares life’s funny and inspiring moments” and “doesn’t tear down life but celebrates it.”
Saturday, October 26, 7pm: Gramps the Vamp and Nosferatu
Gramps the Vamp, described in press materials as Chicago-based “doom-funk” band, Gramps the Vamp will “get audiences in the Halloween spirit playing an original composition to accompany the 1922 silent vampire film Nosferatu as it plays on the screen.”
Saturday, November 16, 7pm: The Paxton-Spangler Band
Fronted by a pair of “vibrant Detroit jazzmen” – RJ Spangler and Tbone Paxton – the five-piece Paxton-Spangler Band will close out the Bay’s fall series with a setlist full of “storied jazz and blues classics.”
Tickets for the fall 2024 run of the Live at the Bay series went on sale to the public on Saturday on the Bay Theatre’s website. Admission to each show is $20, with the exception of John Heffron, whose show carries a ticket price of $25.
