A Newly Remodeled Hannah’s Celebrates Two Years In Lake Leelanau This Week

By Emily Tyra | March 2, 2022

Bakery owner Hannah Grinage is celebrating two years in business this week, sharing her newly remodeled Hannah's space with customers (along with a mini cupcake on the house).

“We actually opened on Leap Day, 2020, so we will celebrate every day we are open this week ,” she says. “Everyone who stops in gets a free mini cupcake. It's a little thank you for helping us get through a tough 2020, thrive in 2021 and even start growing in 2022.”

Grinage started her bakery/ice cream/gift shop at 112 E. Philip Street in Lake Leelanau just in time to be shut down at the onset of the pandemic. “That was a rough start,” she shares. “We have had to adjust how we serve customers at least three times since. We worked exclusively out of the front windows for the first summer.”

But now, she tells the Leelanau Ticker, “We are looking ahead to all the growth to come. We just remodeled the shop to give our staff a lot more space to create.” And now that the bakers have the Hannah’s staples — her homemade cupcakes, warm soft pretzels, and mile-high cinnamon rolls — down pat she says, “We are perfecting and adding to our menu including macarons, ice cream creations, muffins, a wider variety of gourmet cookies, and we might even undertake some mini pies.”

Hannah's also revamped the customer side of things, making ice cream front and center, updating online ordering, and adding a large bakery case. “We are growing our wholesale options and now in discussions to expand wholesale to a few more amazing local businesses.”

A few things from the pandemic days will stay: “we will have an ice cream window this summer as well as a separate sandwich pick up window. And all seating is outdoors.”

She adds that they are committed to the community: “Looking back at the past two years I can only be thankful, excited, and optimistic for our future in Lake Leelanau.”
