WCMU Public Radio Expands Coverage To Leelanau And Beyond
WCMU Public Radio has expanded the National Public Radio affiliate’s coverage in northwest lower Michigan with the addition of WCMV-FM, 94.3, in Leland. The additional radio signal will introduce WCMU Public Radio to listeners across the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas, south through Empire all the way to Manistee. WCMV-FM 94.3 also boosts the station’s service area east through Cadillac, Manton and Lake City.
Courtney Jerome, who is both a marketing specialist and a producer at WCMU, says “we are looking forward to expanding our presence in the area and providing a new station to drivers — our recent member survey showed that the number-one way listeners listen is via their car radio.”
She adds that new listeners to WCMU Public Radio can tune into NPR staples like “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered;” along with local news coverage; classical, blues, traditional and jazz music; and educational and informative programs.
“WCMU’s public radio team (pictured above) has provided more than 50 years of informed, engaged and educational public service programs to our northern Michigan television viewers and radio listeners,” says Jim Rademaker, WCMU Public Media general manager. “We look forward to hearing from our new listeners on how we can best meet their informational and entertainment needs.”
This acquisition expands the WCMU Public Radio Network to eight radio stations serving more than 1,800,000 listeners in central and northern Michigan, including the eastern Upper Peninsula and portions of Ontario, Canada.
