The Latest Leelanau County Blotter & 911 Call Report

The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the March 11 to March 17 call reports.

5:24am 3/11/2025 Fire Grass Solon Twp., Caller is reporting a fire near this intersection. Looks like an illegal burn, we will be out investigating. All units can cancel besides Cedar Fire. Spoke with the homeowner, this is a controlled burn and he has been tending to it all night.

8:29am 3/11/2025 Family Trouble Leelanau Cty., Confronted regarding rent and he became irate and there was a verbal argument. Caller doesn’t feel safe with him on the property due to his violent past. Left before we arrived, advised caller of their options. 

12:51pm 3/11/2025 Traffic Violation W Empire Hwy., Eastbound, silver Chevy cargo van following the caller. Caller was westbound and the vehicle has been following him ever since. Passed the caller then brake checked him and waited for him at the worksite. Followed him to other locations, two people in the vehicle, older male driver with silver beard.

11:11am 3/13/2025 Welfare Check S West-Bay Shore Dr., Saw a young boy standing very near the road, short sleeves, no coat, west side of the road. 

12:53pm 3/13/2025 Scam Centerville Twp., Says someone is trying to scam him out of his vehicle and now they are threatening him.

8:03pm 3/14/2025 Warrant Arrest Leelanau Cty., Male standing at bus stop, caller thinks he “has a problem”. It looks like he is tweaking. One in custody. 

12:10am 3/15/2025 Suspicious Vehicle S West-Bay Shore Dr., 45-15 called out with a camper van, the occupants have been camping in the van for about six hours and business wants them to leave. 

11:37am 3/15/2025 Animal Control S West-Bay Shore Dr., Female, 100lbs, great pyrenees, black masking and white body, no collar.

3:19pm 3/15/2025 Animal Control Cleveland Twp., English shepherd missing. Brown and white, wearing a collar, possibly red. 

4:04pm 3/15/2025 Suspicious Person Suttons Bay Twp., Male knocking on her door, states his car broke down and is asking for caller’s help. Caller is scared.

3:06am 3/16/2025 Suspicious Incident Centerville Twp., Caller is reporting that a couple times tonight they had two kids come up and ring their doorbell but would run away once the caller came to the door.

9:53am 3/16/2025 Welfare Check Suttons Bay Twp., Employee called and sounded hysterical. 

1:15pm 3/17/2025 Suspicious Incident Leelnanau Cty., Individual was at association property early. He was angry and wanted to argue with the caller. He did not pose a threat but the caller wanted it noted for the record.
