The Latest Leelanau County Blotter & 911 Call Report

The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the January 28 to February 3 call reports.

8:48am1/28/2025 Road Hazard Maple City, SUV in the roadway. Front right side damage, lost rear mirror. One person in the front seat, caller didn’t stop to check.

3:58pm 1/28/2025 Info Leelanau Hwy., A week ago caller noticed a plow truck that looked stuck and off the road, now there’s a 5 gallon bucket full of hydraulic fluid with no lid left on the side of the road.

12:33am 1/29/2025 Suspicious Vehicle S West-Bay Shore Dr., Called out with a vehicle at the market. The driver was pulled over to safely take a text. 

11:40am 1/29/2025 Fire Structure Lake Leelanau, Snowmobile on fire right next to a trailer. Road commission notified for water/ice on roadway, response en route. Smoke and flames visible, requires that the power company cut power. 20 minute status: all secure, fire is mostly knocked down, working hot spots. 

4:22pm 1/29/2025 Civil S West-Bay Shore Dr., Subject took items from caller and suspects others. Never reports that items were sold and doesn’t pay commission. Closed the business, now her phone is disconnected. 

5:04pm 1/29/2025 Neighbor Suttons Bay Twp., Caller has an aggressive neighbor forcing her way into the house. 

8:48pm 1/30/2025 Traffic Violation S West-Bay Shore Dr., Reckless driver passed twice unsafely, swerving in and out of lane, red old model pickup.

10:18pm 1/30/2025 Road Hazard Lake Leelanau, Out with broken water spigot spraying water onto M22. Water has been shut off, M22 slippery at that location. 

9:36am 1/31/2025 Larceny Centerville Twp., Taking money out of account.

7:22pm 1/31/2025 Stab/Gunshot E Traverse Hwy., Male at the ER. Accidentally shot himself in the foot with a shotgun while rabbit hunting. 

3:23pm 2/1/2025 Motor Vehicle Crash Elmwood Twp., Caller is a postal worker, male backed out of his driveway and broke the tail light on the postal vehicle. 

10:43am 2/2/2025 Parking Bingham Twp., 6 large pickup trucks parked on the lane of traffic in front of this residence, making traffic go into the other lane to get by. Owners are going to move them either further off the roadway or into the driveway.

11:33am 2/2/2025 VCSA Lake Leelanau, Red pickup truck parked at the pump for over 2 hours. Hasn’t pumped any gas but refusing to move the truck because he doesn’t have any gas and doesn’t have money to pay for gas.

11:31am 2/3/2025 Trespassing Suttons Bay Twp., Daughter keeps coming into house and stealing items. Would like her trespassed.
