Leelanau Historical Society Seeking Relics, Stories of Sugar Loaf For Upcoming Exhibit

In the wake of the Leelanau Ticker’s Monday article about the now-demolished Sugar Loaf ski resort, we heard from Kim Kelderhouse, executive director of the Leelanau Historical Society & Museum, who informed us that the she and her team are currently seeking out tales and relics of Sugar Loaf’s glory days.

“The Leelanau Historical Society is actively collecting stories, artifacts, and photos related to Sugar Loaf, with plans to someday launch an exhibit,” Kelderhouse wrote. Artifacts could include lift tickets, clothing, documents, photographs, and more.

Got anything that might fit into a community-curated exhibit about Sugar Loaf? The Historical Society has an active Google Doc where Loafers can share details about their artifacts or memories of the resort. In the case of physical objects, those interested in contributing to the exhibit can choose to donate their artifacts to the Historical Society permanently, or to loan them to the Historical Society “for the duration of the Sugar Loaf Exhibit.”
