Historic Inn In Glen Haven Gets A Boost

Balancing Environment and Rehabilitation (BEAR), the organization leasing the former frontier inn within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakehore (SBDNL), has secured a $1.38 million U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) loan. The organization will use the funds to rehabilitate the inn and garage located in the Glen Haven Historic District Village. The project will create eight jobs.

The building will be operated as a nine-room premier bed and breakfast; at last report, BEAR had planned to reopen the inn this past summer. The organization’s web site now says the inn will open in “late spring 2023.”

The National Park Service owns the property and buildings and has provided a 40-year lease to BEAR to operate the facility.
