Friends Of Sleeping Bear Dunes Clear Heritage Trail After Severe Winds

The all-volunteer Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes group reports that high winds the region experienced last Wednesday and Thursday blew down 46 trees on the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail. “All but one were from Empire to Glen Haven,” the nonprofit shared via social media.

A team of four volunteers worked to clear the downed trees over the weekend, saving one exceptionally large beech tree on the spur to the Pierce Stocking Drive parking lot, “which will need to be tackled by the National Park Service.”
