Bay Theatre To Premiere New Documentary About Homelessness
Want to be one of the first people in the world to see a brand-new movie? The Bay Community Theatre in Suttons Bay has been chosen as the world theatrical premiere site for The Razor’s Edge, a new documentary about homelessness. The premiere is scheduled for 4pm this Sunday, November 3 and will feature a panel discussion between the film’s director and several local nonprofit leaders.
“The Razor's Edge will take the audience into the lives of those facing poverty and survival every day, many calling the streets their home,” reads a description on the film’s official website. “We will gain a deep understanding of the often misunderstood world of those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. The film will shed light on several respected organizations that have built their foundation around helping those that live on the razor’s edge.”
“Our goal is to help our audience understand how complicated living on the margins of society can be and which organizations have the biggest impact on helping someone turn their life around,” the description continues.
Keith Famie, the film’s director and producer, will be in attendance at Sunday’s premiere. According to a press release from the Bay Theatre, Famie “was known for many years as a celebrity chef and a metro Detroit restaurateur.” In 1989, Food & Wine magazine dubbed him as one of America’s “best new chefs,” and Esquire gave his restaurants “best new restaurant” honors on two occasions.
You might also recognize Famie from television. In 2001, he competed on the second season of Survivor, finishing third. He’s also hosted multiple shows on the Food Network, including Taste the Adventure and Keith Famie’s Adventures.
Since then, Famie has pivoted to documentary filmmaking, tackling subjects like war, depression and suicide, Alzheimer’s and dementia, and more. The Razor’s Edge is his latest film.
In addition to the film screening, Sunday’s premiere will include a panel conversation between Famie and representatives from three local nonprofits, including Leelanau Christian Neighbors, 5Loaves2Fish Northern Michigan, and Feed the Children.
