5Loaves2Fish Appoints New Co-Directors

The Leland-based nonprofit 5Loaves2Fish announced a “passing the baton” this week, with founders Bill and Michelle White and Operations Director Emily Kanitz sharing the news that they have appointed Caleb and Corrie Piersma as the organization’s new co-directors. A press release touts the leadership change as “the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the organization as it continues to expand impact and reach,” as well as  way of “keeping the organization fresh with new energy and ideas.”

Founded by the Whites in 2019, 5Loaves2Fish is described as “an outreach group that promotes compassion by providing nourishing meals, infused with love, to those experiencing food insecurity and homelessness.” In recent years, the organization has worked alongside homeless shelters in Traverse City and other northern Michigan nonprofits to combat homelessness in the region.

Per the press release, the Piersmas “bring a wealth of experience in nonprofit management, community engagement and innovative program development” and “a proven track record of successfully leading initiatives that drive social change.”

“We are both incredibly excited and honored to join 5Loaves2Fish,” the Piersmas said. “This organization has a remarkable history of making a tangible impact in our community and we are both excited and humbled to be a part of it. We look forward to working with the talented team at 5Loaves2Fish, our partners, and the communities we serve. We’re eager to be a part of building this legacy and create even greater opportunities for those in need.”
